I LOVE MY KINDLE
It's sad to admit, I used to be aggressively against e-readers of any kind. The idea of swiping instead of turning a page; of marking a page by tapping a flag instead of finding a receipt or scrap paper; of turning the reader off instead of closing the book seemed negative to me. I receive a small commission for purchases made through these amazon links.I WAS WRONG
🖤 I still love the stack of physical books on my nightstand, but I love having hundreds of thousands of books at my fingertips.
🖤 I still love digging in my bag for the fancy bookmark I forgot at home and instead using a gum wrapper to mark my page, but I love that the Kindle app on my phone syncs so I can read even if I forgot my Kindle at home.
🖤 I love the unlimited nature of having a Kindle. I'm a mood reader and being able to swap from Dark Mafia Romance to the fluffy mommy Rom-Com on a whim is exactly what I needed!
🖤 I love the SAVINGS from my Kindle! A Kindle Unlimited subscription is $12/month. Personally I read 20+ books a month. If I bought all new paperbacks at approximately $13 each instead of KU, my monthly book cost would be over $250! Even if you aren't a crazy reader like me... $12 UNLIMITED reading in a crazy extensive catalog of books is less than buying ONE paperback book.
I STILL BUY BOOKS
I will be the first to admit, I still buy books. I think of them more like trophies now though. If I read a book that I absolutely LOVE, I will buy it for my home library. For the sake of comparison we're talking about 205 books read on KU last year verses 13 making it to my shelf. That is a HUGE savings and I'm still doing what I love to do - READING!
SIDE QUEST - BOOK REC
My latest book trophy was the Omnibus Blackwood Institute: The Complete Trilogy. Guys, this book is not for everyone. It is the darkest thing I've ever read, YOU MUST check your trigger warnings, but it was also beautiful. A found family, reverse harem where the FMC sacrifices her well being to protect her men. They're all broken in their own twisted ways, but somehow being together makes the world manageable. It deserves it's own post so I'll update HERE once I write it.
BACK TO KINDLE INFO
The biggest thing for me was get over was it doesn't have to be one or the other. Loving your kindle doesn't mean you hate books. I still love books. So much so that I've started learning how to rebind my cheap paperbacks I rescue from the thrift store into custom hardbacks. But that's a different post too... is my ADHD showing yet?
The next hardest thing for me was choosing my Kindle. If you just search Amazon it's crazy overwhelming. So here's my Kindle set up. I have the 16GB 11th Generation Paperwhite with Ads. I debated spending the extra $20 for ad free, but it doesn't bother me at all and I've honestly found some awesome books through the ads. I've never had a storage space issue and you can send epubs to your Kindle device email address.
I have 2 cases - my main case is clear for showing off my stickers and using at home & my traveling case has a cover flap to protect the screen.
EXTRAS
As far as bougie extras - these are things I've seen great reviews for from other readers! I am an amazon affiliate and make a small commission if you purchase items through any of my blog links.
Page Turner - this sounds so ridiculous, but it's cold in Michigan. I would love to prop my Kindle up on pillow, cocoon myself in my blankets and not have to move my arm while I read!
Stand - talking about propping your Kindle up, why use a pillow when this amazing hands-free stand exists. I've heard this one is great and it comes with a page turner!
Charging Dock - this one isn't exclusively for my Kindle, but I always have too many things plugged in on my kitchen counter and this dock would be an awesome solution.
Stickers - last but not least bookish stickers. Put them on your kindle, your water cup, your car, your partner, your calendar, you get it. Put them everywhere! I loved this mix!
